Causes Of Tinnitus: Is The Ringing In My Ears Caused By Blood Pressure?

By Lindsay Gregg

As you may know, some people sufferer from having a constant ringing or noise in their ears caused tinnitus. Most of the time tinnitus comes from the damage sustained within the inner ear. But, in some cases tinnitus can be a symptom of an underlining cause. One of these causes could be high blood pressure.

There are a few different types of tinnitus however one rare type of tinnitus is often known as pulsatile tinnitus. It's the kind of ear noise that may be heard as a rhythmical pulsing that's regularly in time with the heart beat but only 3% of patients experience this sort of tinnitus. It is often heard as a thumping or whooshing sound. It is due to a derangement of the person's blood flow. Pulsatile tinnitus happens when the arteries within the head or neck of the patient experience an increased blood flow or a narrowing of the opening of the artery itself. The turbulent blood flow can be then heard in either or both of the ears. Pulsatile tinnitus is totally independent from continuing tinnitus which is due to damages caused to the cochlea of the internal ear of the hearing nerve. Though, it is actually possible to experience both sorts of tinnitus at one time.

With pulsatile tinnitus a basal major condition can be the difficulty like raised blood pressure. AKA high blood pressure, elevated blood pressure can have many symptoms or it can happen with no symptoms. Though hearing a ringing in the ear could be a symptom of raised blood pressure, it isn't a typical symptom. Usually patients with hypertension that experience pulsatile tinnitus don't begin to hear a noise in their ears till after they start to take blood pressure medicine. The tinnitus can resolve by itself after around 4 to 6 weeks or a change in the medicine can resolve the issue. Other people developed tinnitus because of the elevated blood pressure which then resolved after medicine reduced the pressure with in the blood vessels.

Several conditions could be the cause of pulsatile tinnitus. One of the more frequent causes of pulsatile tinnitus is BIH ( bening intracranial high blood pressure ). This is a condition where there's an increased pressure in the cerebrospinal liquid that washes the brain leading to young, chunky females. Another cause for pulsatile tinnitus is thanks to a glomus growth. This is a benign vascular tumor usually found in the ear or slightly under the artery and results from a cholesterol increase in the artery wall. Pulsatile tinnitus may also be because of a middle ear infection or soreness.

Dependent on the result of the pulsatile tinnitus, there might be one or two different cures. In the case of raised blood pressure, the doctor might prescribe a medicine to scale back the symptoms. It's very important to report any side-effects caused by a new medicine. If you believe that your tinnitus is due to raised blood pressure, see your doctor to get your pressure checked.
