Gonorrheoa Infected Men Generally Have Bad Body Odour Based on a New Study

By Dr Paul Conley

Gonorrhoea is a repeatedly encountered sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is thought to affect millions of men and women around the world. In most cases, the common indicators of the condition include infection and burning itch in the colon, vagina, throat or eyes; pain during urination; and a white, yellow or green discharge from the penis. Some sufferers may not encounter any gonorrhoea symptoms whatsoever. But an excellent new research from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Russia seems to suggest that women may recognize if a male partner has gonorrhoea by simply using their sense of smell.

Gonorrhoea Makes Men Smell Putrid

To provide the evidence for this new research, Russian researchers took a group of 34 young Russian men, 13 of whom had gonorrhoea, 5 were already treated but had had gonorrhoea in the past, and 16 were entirely healthy. They then collected armpit sweat samples from each subject and presented them to the 18 female trialists to test the smell. The research did show that the female trialist usually described almost all of the infected men's sweat as "putrid", with the sweat from the treated and healthier men usually being pleasant. This would appear to indicate a natural presumption of the disease in potential sex partners, similar to features observed in rodents. Of course, sweat is sweat - and overall, every female ranked the large majority of the samples as not pleasant.

Gonorrhoea and the Importance Of Sensible Sexual Health

Unless you hope to diagnose your sexual health with a sniff-test for gonorrhoea, the most rational course of action is to visit a GP at the sexual health centre for regular checkups. A call to the doctor can notably help establish the occurence of gonorrhoea. This, in turn, treats this health issue early on. Moreover, it can further help in avoiding the disease from spreading to other healthy people, more especially your sexual partner or on your loved one. While this is a treatable disease that can be cured with the right medical guidance and drug treatment just like Cefixime, knowing that you have contracted the disease is usually the most ignored step in the war against Gonorrhoea.
