Premature Ejaculation Drugs

By Simon Howell

Premature ejaculation (PE), by definition, is the inability of a man to control his ejaculation either before or just after sexual penetration, with very little sexual stimulation and before both partners wish. This condition is common in men under the age of 40 years, and can be treated in a number of ways.

Premature ejaculation drugs: Antidepressants - one of the side effects of certain antidepressants is a delayed orgasm. Your doctor may prescribe an antidepressant for you to benefit from this side effect. These drugs may include a number of SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors) such as fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil) or sertraline (Zoloft). Usually, these drugs take up to 10 days for them to be effective. If they fail to work, then the doctor may suggest Anafranil -tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine -which has similar benefits, but is more effective. Alternatively, you may use topical anesthetic creams and sprays that contain prilocaine or lidocaine to reduce the sensation on the penile, and maintain an erection longer. These drugs are applied just before intercourse, and then wiped off when the penile becomes desensitized enough.

Side effects of premature ejaculation drugs: The use of topical creams significantly reduces sexual pleasure in men. Furthermore, if not wiped off properly before penetration, they will also numb the female's genital area and reduce sexual pleasure. In some cases, prilocaine and lidocaine may also cause irritation. On the other hand, antidepressants are known to have other side effects such as dry mouth, drowsiness, nausea and reduced libido.

Other precautions: Drugs that contain benzocaine can actually sad reactions. If they are applied too early before the actual erection time, they might cause difficulty when the right time for erection approaches. On the other hand, if applied too late and thus not properly absorbed into the skin, they can be transmitted to your partner and thus cause numbness in the genitalia. Equally important, some drugs have not been proved to work. And inquiry into the homeopathy philosophy in ascertained that the drugs are no better than placebo.

Conclusion: For those that are affiliated to the effective side of the drugs, they are great, but only when used as emergency tactics. They can help you add a few minutes of pleasure but they will not cure your problem permanently. However, given the side effects, it would be wiser to at least research a little further for more convenient and safer approaches available in the market today.
