Impotence Aids - Don't Feel Down, There's A New Cure in Town

By Jordan Mitchell

Having a satisfying sex life is always brought about by a stable sexual health. However, when there are problems with erection, this greatly affects the way men perform sex. This condition is called erectile dysfunction or ED. Common to the majority as just impotence, this problem is usually caused by other health concerns like diabetes, kidney disease, chronic alcoholism and heart disease. However, there is another cause to impotence - a damage in the cavernosal nerves of the penis brought about by surgery, injury and other forms of threat.

However, there is a brighter aspect to it - Impotence is curable. A recent research from the Children's Hospital in Boston, MA have worked hard to have discovered a way to fight erectile dysfunction. Restoration can be made possible through tissue engineering. The study revealed that a set of nerves could be restored and regenerated to its functions and regains its sexual purpose.

With this, an experiment was performed on 90 male rats with their cavernosal nerves cut off to simulate the state of impotence. With the damage cavernosal nerve, the researchers attached a graft. The graft, however, can come from the nerves of the other parts of the body of the same rat, or from collagen, which is an elastic protein that consists of connective tissues within the body. The graft was made in a way that it took the same shape of the injured nerve that can allow new nerve cells to grow on and over it. This shows that the graft is the needed support for the new nerve cells to grow on. The results of the study were then revealed to the American Urological Association.

The findings of the experiment were presented to the American Urological Association. After about three months of the study, the cavernosal nerves of the rats, which were implanted from collagen and other nerves turned out to look like the nerves that were not damaged. The positive results can provide a turning point in the cure for men with problems of ED. This just proves that with the proper treatment, the body has the capacity to be able to heal itself. However, it has to proven even more, if the success would ultimately lead to improved erection.

However, the study is only limited to rats and rabbits which are only small mammals. This study has not yet been tested to humans. With this, there is enhancement of the research in order to make a complete penis in the laboratory along with healthy tissues and a penis nerve network that can be proven highly functional.

Well, the cure for erectile dysfunction is on its way. Many thanks to medical advancement and scientific breakthrough, men haunted with the effects of ED can now have a brighter future ahead. Once these nerve implants can be proven safe and applicable to humans, the road to the cure of erectile dysfunction is finally on its way.
