Conceiving a Boy by Shettles Method

By Aldrin Chandani

At today's modern era, most couples want a certain sex for their children, with a variety of reasons. A survey showed that only 17% of couples who do not want a particular gender for their child. In the 1960s, Dr. Landrum B. Shettles conducted a series of studies which later developed into a method for determining the sex of a child naturally and inexpensive, the Shettles Method.

Shettles Method was developed by Dr. Landrum B. Shettles based study of the differences in character-of the Y-bearer sperm (male) and X-bearer sperm (female).

Differences in the character of the sperm was divided into 4 different as follows:

1. Speed. In terms of speed, Y-bearer sperm can swim faster than X-bearer sperm.

2. Female chromosome carrying sperm have a longer survival than male chromosomes carrying sperm.

3. Female chromosome carrying sperm is more resistant to acidic conditions than male chromosomes carrying sperm.

4. Increased sperm count is usually in line with the increased ratio of Y-sperm by X-bearer bearer sperm.

Based on the four characters above, shettles method constructed a set of rules for determine a specific gender. If you want a boy, here are the rules of the shettles method to have a baby boy:

1. Having sex during ovulation may increase the chances of getting a boy. Avoid having sex (unless wearing a condom) after ovulation or before the period of the ovulation ended.

2. Make sure the male partner is not having sex / ejaculation 4-5 days before the intercourse. This is needed to increase the ratio of Y-bearer sperm.

3. Avoid using tight pants, hot tubs, sauna, and cycling. These activities will increase the temperature of the scrotum and causes decreased sperm counts and ratio of Y-bearer sperm.

4. Female orgasm will make the vagina becomes more alkaline, favorable for the Y-bearer sperm.

5. for the female partner, stay away from high acid foods, and multiply the foods that have a low pH.

Conclusion

To this day, shettles method is one of the most popular method in determining the sex of the child. Dr. Landrum B. Shettles himself claims that the success rate of this method shettles reached 70% -90%. Although is built on science, but not all recent studies agree with shettles method. Several studies show that the shettles method have the opportunity to complicate the couple in having children. After all, the most Important is the pregnancy Itself, as a gift that deserves to be thankful for.
