For Anyone Thinking Of Getting Fit - Walking Can Help

By Vanessa Summer

If you've determined to shed off some pounds then perhaps you've come up with some kind of exercise plan. Perhaps haven't exercised previously, or at least not recently. Even though it can be overwhelming, you can work your way into an exercise program bit by bit by walking. You should unquestionably add walking to any exercise routine you do.

There are many ways to fit walking into your everyday schedule. If you have a dog then walk it around the vicinity for at least 10 minutes. Your walks may only be ten minutes at a time, but after 7 days that equates to at least 70 minutes, which is rather a lot of walking. You can double the number if you walk your dog twice per day. If you live close to where you work, try walking all or a little bit of the way. Of course, if it's going to take you 2 hours to walk to work, it's not such a good idea to walk there daily (but feel free to try if you feel you can do it!). It's not unreasonable to walk 30 minutes to get to your office and it will give you one hour of exercise every day walking back and forth. If you catch a bus, just walk to the next bus stop so that you do a little more walking each day. Walking isn't hard to incorporate into your routine.

Walking is terrific for your whole health. As it's a type of aerobic exercise, you'll burn off calories while also melting off the fat and bettering your cardiovascular health. Unlike running, which can put a strain on your joints, you can walk at a pace that works for you. My brother is very lean (but he consumes a good deal of junk food) and I ask him how he he can remain thin. He says he has no clue but told me that he walks a lot daily. As soon as he mentioned that, I got a clearer picture. Walking is an easy physical activity so you should find no reason to not bother.

Set up a regular walking routine, combine it with a good diet, and you should see weight loss without any major effort. When you walk daily, you'll discover that you feel more fit and are motivated to continue walking daily. You can increase the intensity of your walking as you become used to walking on a regular basis. There's no reason not to do it if you feel fine with that. Walk a little faster than you usually do and perhaps jog for a few steps along the way if you feel like it. The next step will be to move on to even more strenuous activities.

There should be no way for you to not go walking for a few minutes every day. Even if you have a lot of things on your plate, you can take out 10 minutes to walk around the area, or if you are a member of a gym, nip in and do 30 minutes on the treadmill at a slow pace to start off with.
