Stop Suffering From Lower Back Pains By Following These Steps

By Jeff Salyers

Lower back pain is a common affliction. Nearly four out of five Americans suffer with it. Whether lower back pain comes from comes from injury or weight gain, the pain you feel can be intense.

Following are some effective at home and over the counter remedies that may help relieve your back pain and give you ideas about out why it occurred.

There are a lot of reasons why lower back pain occurs. It may be the result of weight gain, a previous injury, slipped disc, strain or even poor posture.

Before you head straight to the doctor, why not try some natural and over the counter methods of treating your lower back pain? Start with the easiest - hot and cold treatments. Apply an ice pack to the area of your back that's hurting. The cold temperature will numb the pain and reduce swelling and inflammation.

Heat is another option. Try taking a hot bath or shower, followed by applying a heating pad or a hydroculator. The heat works to increase circulation by dilating the blood vessels in the area that hurts.

If hot or cold don't seem to be doing the trick, you may want to also take an over the counter pain pill, such as ibuprofen. Follow the directions carefully and only take the recommended amount.

Another good solution is to begin a sensible exercise program, such as yoga or Pilates. It should combine stretching and flexing. Begin slowly and work out as often as possible. Lengthen your routine as you strengthen. Many times a regular exercise program will relieve the problem entirely and save you a doctor visit.

Hopefully, you will find relief after trying one or more of the treatments discussed. Many people have found help for their back pain using them in combination and have saved themselves a trip to the doctor.
