Sleep Apnea, if you have this health difficulty, then you already know the indications and how it has an effect on your everyday life. If, on the other hand, you have just heard of sleep apnea, but do not know what it is, let me share with you what the indications are and how you can treat this sleeping difficulty at home.

When an individual is not able to sleep without interruption at night, this can be irritating and frightening. Breathing is what everyone does, day in and day out. If someone is sleeping, and they stop their regular routine of breathing, this is called sleep apnea. Newborns, at times, forget to breathe and they as well have bouts of sleep apnea.

That is why it is important for a nurse or parent to watch their newborn when sleeping. Not being able to breathe whilst sleeping, whether a newborn or adult, will cut off oxygen to the brain and might cause irreversible injury. Even if breathing only ceases for ten or more seconds.

There are various methods to recognize sleep apnea in a person. One way is how an individual sleeps at night or if they have the need to sleep in the daytime. As it turns out, snoring is a kind of apnea and if all you want to do is sleep during the daytime, this is a cause for alarm because somehow oxygen is being cut off from the brain.

Along with these two obvious symptoms, an individual wakes up with headaches which never happened before, not being able to remember the simplest of things, along with concentrating at work or play.

If you think apnea is something you are struggling with, it is necessary to see a GP right away. This is not the easiest health problem to pinpoint.

Being healthy is everyone?s goal and since breathing is something performed daily, without thinking about it, the moment breathing is disrupted is the time to get in touch with your GP.

When you see your medical doctor, they ought to be asking you about the indications above, along with asking if you are experiencing depression and mood swings. Now, your medical doctor might prescribe such things as sleeping on your side, instead of your back and taking various decongestants.

These are ways to stop sleep apnea for those with a mild case. On the other hand, if the apnea is more severe, a sleeping mask will be something to think about using in order to keep oxygen going to the brain.

One thing an individual suffering from sleep apnea should not do is take sleeping tablets. Sleeping pills will cause even more breathing problems. These are called non prescriptive ways to cure sleep apnea or at least relax.

Just remember that the indications above are serious and if they are something you are feeling, please contact your medical doctor. These symptoms are not to be taken lightly.

Finally, if you are smoking, this as well you should stop. There is a link between sleep apnea and smoking as inhaling smoke is not the best thing for the respiratory system.
