Health - Is Your Blood Pressure Too High?

High blood pressure is a dangerous disease that affects many different people. Fortunately from those who have problems with high blood pressure, there are ways that it can be controlled. Talk to your doctor about your blood pressure and find out where it needs to be. Once you know you can take the proper steps to ensure that it is in a healthy range. Use a blood pressure monitor daily to make sure you are getting the results you need.

The first thing that needs to be examined is your weight. People who are overweight have a higher risk of high blood pressure than those who are at a healthy weight. Try limiting the number of calories that you eat on a daily basis. Make sure that your meals are portion controlled and that you are eating the right things. You should include lean proteins and a variety of fruits and vegetables. Starches should be limited and so should fatty foods.

The next thing that you should so is incorporate exercise into your daily routine. When combined with proper diet, daily exercise can really help you shed some pounds which will help to lower your blood pressure. Before starting an exercise program, be sure you talk to your doctor and see what levels you should be around. This will ensure that you are not overworking your body and putting yourself in a dangerous position. It only takes 45 minutes to an hour a day.

Finally, you must keep a close watch on the amount of sodium you eat. Too much sodium is a leading cause of high blood pressure and many people do not even realize. The recommended amount for each day is around six grams or one teaspoon. Avoid processed foods because they often have too much sodium in them. Many people are amazed at how much sodium they have been eating when they begin monitoring its intake. Always taste your food before salting.

For people who have high blood pressure, these methods can go a long way toward helping you get things under control. If you do not get control of your blood pressure with these methods it may be necessary to take a prescription blood pressure medication. Your doctor will advise if this is necessary. No matter how it is done, it is important to helping you avoid other conditions that are related to high blood pressure such as heart attack and stroke.
