My Opinion On How To Prevent Kidney Stones

By Dwayne Meardon

The explanation of kidney stones is hard, crystalline minerals that have been created in your urinary tract or kidneys. These are commonly created by a lower volume of urine, a high number of stone-creating compounds like uric acid, calcium and amino acid cysteine, and being dehydrated. Kidney stones are also the result of the obstructed flow of urine; UTI; and medical problems including gouty arthritis, hypercalciuria, hyperparathyroidism, renal tubular acidosis, cystinuria, hyperoxaluria, diabetes, hypertension, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Often medications like diuretics, antacids with calcium, Crixivan, and HIV drugs lead to kidney stones. Some foods considered to aggravate the condition include those with high sodium, protein, sugar or vitamin D, and oxalate content.

Alternatively, pains in the groin or abdominal area, as well as hematuria and other medical problems can result from having kidney stones. Not all kidney stones demonstrate symptoms, but there are still those that do so. Symptoms of kidney stones come out as a sudden inception of severe constricting pain in the low back or at the side, groin or abdomen sometimes, the pain surfaces more than one of the said areas.

This pain may come with nausea and vomiting. There are instances when the kidney stones will have infection on them, thus, causing fever and chills. Other kidney stones symptoms are urinating difficulty, urinary urgency, and penile or testicular pain.

A helical CT scan with the absence of contrast material is the most common procedure used for the diagnosis for kidney stones. Prior to the introduction of the helical CT scan, doctors were forced to use intravenous pyelogram which were less reliable and accurate. Nonetheless, it is still better to avoid having kidney stones at the very beginning.

There are many kidney stone prevention that are listed on in the Internet and they are easy and doable by everyone. The basic steps for kidney stone prevention just include drinking a lot of water, avoiding caffeinated beverages and changing one's diet.

Drinking plenty of water is the most effective kidney stone prevention - it is the most recommendable step. Since kidney stones are most often caused as a result of dehydration, is it best to drink down at the very minimum 3 liters daily to avoid them. Drinking water helps the body remove the substances that develop into kidney stones.

Conversely, drinks that contain caffeine can be diuretic and so allow people to flush fluids more quickly. Consequently, it does not provide the time necessary for the removal of materials which can lead to kidney stones. Therefore, it is advisable to limit one's self to just one or two cups of cola, tea, coffee or other caffeinated drinks.

An important kidney stone prevention method relates to changing the diet. To successfully lose weight, avoid foods rich in oxalate, such as nuts, chocolate and dark green vegetables; don't drink grapefruit juice or eat salty food; increase your fiber intake with whole grains, beans, and cruciferous vegetables; eat foods rich in calcium, and consume small portions of poultry, pork, and beef. Such preventative measures will help to ensure that you do not get kidney stones as time goes on.
