Addiction to Intercourse: What You Need to Know

By Tim Patty

Intercourse addiction is characterized by an uncontrollable need to engage in promiscuous activity. Not all people who have a high level of sensual intensity are addicts, but in some cases, prolonged exposure to a sensual lifestyle can lead to addiction. Besides the unusual intensity of cravings, the person often disregards proper behavior to obtain release. The pleasure may be one of the main factors that contribute but there are some more things anybody should know about this disorder.

Origins of Addiction

Being conditioned to pleasure early on may lead to long time addiction. If a person was exposed to sensual activity early, he is likely to develop an addiction to it. Victims of sensual molestations have a tendency to crave intercourse. For these victims, however, the extreme opposite could also happen. Some victims are likely to abhor any type of sensual activity. Promiscuity at an early age may lead to intercourse addiction in the future. Sensual desires build to a feverish pitch before the person becomes totally consumed by it.

Some intercourse addicts don't act on their urges with others. The urge is there but release is done by masturbation and pornography viewing. Pornography obsession may be a separate addiction altogether, but it is closely related with intercourse addiction. Sensual fantasies are also avenues for release. A intercourse addict needs a porn fix every now and then.

Signs and Symptoms

The thought of intercourse dominates a person's thoughts, until he thinks of nothing else but how to obtain it. Dome addicts don't leave home without release so that they can endure during the day. An addict will not be able to bear having to abstain for a long time. Fascination with intercourse stories and sensual innuendo in conversation may be signs of intercourse addiction.

Intercourse addicts don't focus much on the relationship created by the intercourse. Because of this, they are seldom picky when it comes to intercourse partners. As a result of this shallow regard for the sensual act, they find it difficult to stay in a relationship without an active intercourse schedule. Sensual pleasure is not considered cheating to these people.

Desire Over Reason

Having intercourse is something they must do, like eat, sleep or drink. In case their behavior gets found out and they are subjected to therapy or get berated, they tend to make excuses.
