Helpful UTI Home Remedy

By Delphine Keniry

A Urinary Tract Infection, usually known as a UTI, is an infectious bacteria that exists in a person's urinary tract and eventually moves through the whole urinary system and infects it. This includes the ureters, urethra, bladder and the kidney. This condition is reported to be more common to women - averaging at over 75% of reported cases.

The virulent microorganism gets through the urethral meatus and multiplies as it travels through your urinary tract toward the bladder and kidneys. Those who have this condition often experience pain and sever discomfort. This condition is usually not life-threatening if it is caught in time. You can, however, increase the danger by ignoring it and not giving it the right degree of attention. The worst cases can lead to a severe form of kidney infection known as pyelonephritis.

Generally this condition manifests itself as a painful burning feeling during urination, a frequent need to urinate, a reduction in the quantity of urine passed, and urine appearing cloudy or reddish. Kidney infections are indicated by fever, nausea, vomiting, and chilling.

It is important that a doctor be seen immediately once it is confirmed a person is suffering from this condition. The delay might cause irreversible harm. The best solution, of course, is antibiotics and any other medical attention you might need. However, there are a few natural UTI remedies that can be taken to address the problem.

Cranberry juice is a common treatment for a urinary tract infection. Seeking quick relief through drinking cranberry juice is a long-established way of dealing with Urinary Tract Infections The substance known as proanthocyanins is the reason for its medical benefit. The substance inhibits the bacteria from accumulating and growing within the urinary tract. By doing so the urine will wash it and the infection away.

Research says that cranberry juice is a very effective preventive measure for this condition and that regular intake of it lessens the possibility of one acquiring the infection.

Uva Ursi is another home UTI treatment. This infection can be treated immediately with this type of herb. This has also proven to be an effective anti-bacterial agent because it contains arbutin. Once ingested, it is then broken down by the body and excreted through the kidneys. Unfortunately, this treatment has definite side effects. Some of the symptoms can include a brownish-colored urine accompanied by indigestion and nausea. Neither pregnant women nor children should take Uva Ursi since doing so could lead to severe complications.

Other herbal remedies for UTI include corn silk, marshmallow root, horsetail and buchu.

Home-based, do-it-yourself doctoring won't yield the desired results that can be more readily and safely obtained by seeking professional medical treatment. People experience many complications due to urinary tract infections largely because they fail to seek medical help. Even before opting for any of the home UTI remedies, one must first consult the opinion of an authorized physician.
