Would You Look Better Without Your Skin Tag?

By John Westbrook

It is more likely than not, that you will develop skin tags on your body in your adult life. They are harmless to your health.

Why do so many people have their skin tags removed, if they pose no health risk whatsoever?

The reason someone wants to remove a skin tag is to improve their appearance. They feel better about themselves, when they look good in their own eyes and in the eyes of others. This has been corroborated by research.

Researchers were interested in the reasons why people wanted to remove their skin tags. There were 6 common reasons. People said that their skin tag made them feel less attractive, that they made them feel self conscious, that they felt that people stared at their skin tag, that most people think that they are ugly, that they were embarrassed by their skin tag, and that the skin tag damaged their self confidence. A couple of people said that the skin tag caused them discomfort, when their clothing rubbed against it.

But the predominant reason for removing skin tags, had to do with improving the way people look.

New born babies do not have skin tags. They develop on our bodies as we become adults. They are prevalent in middle age, when we tend to gain weight. They are common on adult bodies until the age of 60.

How can you get rid of your skin tag?

One option is to have a doctor remove it. There are three procedures used by doctors to remove skin tags. Doctors can use surgery to cut it off or it can be burned off or it can be frozen off. The most common procedure is to cut it off using a scalpel or medical shears. There is a risk of scarring when this is done, if the wound needs to be sutured. All 3 procedures can be painful, so expect to be given pain killers.

Physicians typically charge $150 for the removal of each skin tag. It can become costly if there are several skin tags to be removed. It is unlikely that your insurance plan will cover this. This is because skin tag removal is considered to be a cosmetic procedure and not a medical procedure. There is also a likelihood of skin tag recurrence.

Due to the factors just mentioned, an ever increasing number of people are exploring methods to remove their skin tags at home.

You probably want to know if skin tag removal at home is safe. The answer is that it depends how it is done. There are some ways that are not entirely safe. If you are going to remove your skin tags by yourself, first and foremost you need to be sure to use a method that is safe.
