How You Can Ward Off Health Problems By Eating The Right Way And Working Out

By Kurt Wiltjer

If you know you are not healthy, now could be the time to do something about it and look at what you putting in your body. Many us realize that we are overweight; however, we don't think anything of it, or if we do we don't actually do anything about it. Latest numbers were brought out showing Canada as having an obesity rate of 24% and the US at a whopping 34.5%! This isn't a good thing as being overweight or obese can cause high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and even diabetes. When one third of the country's population is obese, you have a critical issue on your hands and you need to ensure it doesn't become pandemic.

As stated earlier, there are several health conditions related to obesity. These can be life changing such as diabetes, which can cause limb amputation and blindness. You may think this could never happen to you, but if you're obese then it's a very grim reality. By just consuming healthily and exercising, you can slim down and live a healthy lifestyle with a smaller chance of developing these diseases.

Hence, what modifications can you make to the food you ingest? Well, whole foods that are very nutritious are important. The skinless kind of chicken and turkey and good quality meats that are low in fat are what you have to aim for. To ensure your body gets what it needs, consider consuming fish, which has a lot of nutritional value.

The problem with bad foods is that they fail to provide you with nutrients that are good for you as they have bad fats or too much sugar. In contrast, the nutrition and protein you realize from eating a meat like chicken will give your body the appropriate type of fuel. The incorrect types of fat, too much salt and sugar, these are areas you should keep an eye on and be sure they are kept to a minimum. Prepared foods usually have a lot of the above, so they need to be avoided when possible.

Processed foods are also loaded with empty calories but taste yummy, so it's easy to over indulge in them, but the truth in the matter is that these foods can trigger heart attacks, diabetes and they can clog up your arteries. Whole food made at home with excellent quality meats and freshly picked veggies is a much better option. Sitting down to eat, it would be nice to be aware of what you are eating.

Working out also plays a role in all of this. By changing your diet, you will get rid of several pounds and by exercising you will beef up your heart and improve your physical fitness. By taking a walk, you can start slowly if you haven't exercised for a while. You can then try to job and run when you're up to it. For burning , you can also try some sort of strength training, which encourages muscle health.

You shouldn't rush into a new diet and work out regime, merely do things step by step. Improve your diet little by little, begin walking on a regular basis and you'll have made the first step to becoming more fit.
