By Pearl Torres

Are you fascinated by people and how they interact? If so, you may enjoy studying industrial psychology. Industrial psychology is the study of people and how they get along in the workplace. Those in the field are given the task of using what they know to increase workplace productivity, selecting suitable candidates for particular jobs, and product testing.

Industrial psychologists may be also involved with other human resources issues such as employee training and assessments. It's their job to make sure each employee selected is suited for their position.

The degree also makes you a perfect candidate for a research or academic position. You can specialize in such areas as human-computer interaction and other factors. Those with many years experience can offer themselves as a consultant.

If you're interested in becoming an industrial psychologist you need to have a bachelor's degree in the field as a start. This will allow you to work in human resources and other related fields.

If you continue on to get your master's degree you will increase your career options. Of course you can work in human resources but also provide consultation services or work in a special area of the government or private industry.

A Master's degree will really open up opportunities for you. You will likely receive higher pay, as well, and the chance for advancement.

To do well as a industrial psychologist you should have the following characteristics: effective communication skills and a willingness to work with all types of people.

When you are an industrial psychologist you need to be able to establish a rapport with the workforce. This will help you to determine how things are working and what areas need tweaking. You will be well served as an industrial psychologist if you are naturally curious and have an analytical mind.
