Tips For Purchasing A Mattress

By Scott Landry

Are you sleeping on a lumpy mattress? If so, you could be jeopardizing your health. Lack of sleep can make you prone to a variety of illnesses, so why take chances? You probably spent a lot of time selecting the bed you sleep on so why not spend as much time looking for the right mattress?

A new mattress can work wonders on a sore back or neck. It can make you feel like a new person. Don't settle for a poor night's sleep on a lumpy mattress, shop for sales and you're likely to find the right mattress for you at a bargain.

When you go mattress shopping it helps to have a plan and know what you're looking for. Follow these suggestions and you're be fine.

When you're comparing mattresses, look for one with good construction. This means that it should be sturdily built and be guaranteed to last for many years. Make sure it has a solid foundation and steel reinforced springs.

Mattresses are built with coils to support your body when you sleep on it. When you're purchasing a new mattress there are certain things to look for in a coil. For example, mattresses with a higher number of coils will generally provide a more supportive night's rest.

As you might expect a mattress with 300 coils will provide less support than a mattress with 700 coils. Look for firm mattresses to have high coil counts.

Also, take into consideration the gauge of the mattress coils. This is the number of coils in an inch. You'll find that mattresses with heavy coils will give you the best support. Light gauge coils will give you less support and tend to be lumpy. You should also be aware that the wires found between the coils matter. A good mattress will have more connecting wires between coils.

The best quality mattresses often come with "pillow tops," for added comfort. You can be assured a wonderful night's sleep upon a pillow-topped mattress with plenty of heavy gauge coils.
