Someone who is suffering from extreme stress has a long and difficult path ahead. Good resources and a positive support system often aren't available for many people. The journey can be more painful because that kind of situation can complicate things. There are those who never recover completely and it results in a life of challenges and complex issues. The goal of a happy and normal life will be hampered because of the difficult behaviors and emotions this person suffers. To try to prevent that from happening, any major traumatic event needs to be dealt with quickly and with as many of the healthy resources available.

It is difficult to outline any universal form of treatment that will help a person deal with extreme stress. The event that caused the stress is what determines what needs to be done. After you speak to them, the trained professional counselor or psychologist will probably recommend further professional treatment.

Awareness can become a tool that can used to your advantage should you ever experience an extremely stressful situation. Because they don't take time to think about consequences or the possible reactions to what has happened, some people will very poor coping skills. Self-education or seeking the advice of the professional are tools that you can use to help yourself.
