People can find they are having to deal with extreme stress often. Likewise, there are many situations that make that high levels of stress and anxiety appear. Let's take one example which is when a disaster occurs, and it is these types of situations that can produce unusual amounts of stress Some of the more common reactions to those events are strong denial and symptoms of shock. In the immediate aftermath one may be more dominate than the other. However, it is also important to realize that those two reactions are natural responses designed to offer protection to the individual. Let's examine some other points as they relate to extreme stress.

The majority of disasters happen quickly and can be overwhelming for people and resources dealing with it. Remember the undersea earthquake and tsunami that devastated northern Japan. That is a good example of thousands of people who were inflicted with extreme trauma and disaster. emotional injury and the variety of reactions to it would be extremely helpful, most people don't see the need to learn about it so are not prepared for it when it happens. In that case, it can make a big difference if some kind of professional assistance is sought. If an affected person becomes aware that something is wrong within them, they can do something about it and gain the upper hand.

It is understood that people are varied in their ability to cope with extremely stressful events and it also depends on the type of event. The time it takes for a reasonable recovery will depend on the kind of trauma as well as the nature of any kind of loss that might have happened. Previous experience in dealing with stress can also play an important role for the person as well. Those who have had experience with highly stressful situations and have handled them well will tend to take less time to cope and recover. That kind of person has already learned the knowledge needed to be able to handle the extreme or high stress.

A major aspect of dealing with extreme stress and its various responses is learning to be patient through the healing process. Healing can be a long process, so having patience is vital to recovery.

There will be feelings and emotions that happen because of the trauma and it is important that you let yourself experience them. It is as equally important to express your emotions in a healthy way as it is to talk about your feelings or experience in a comfortable environment. When everything is kept inside there is a probability that the coping mechanisms will fail. How to deal with extreme stress, anxiety or trauma can be tricky because of the many factors involved. The most important phase, we feel, is the early stage in which the symptoms of reactions may or may not be present. To help them get through the ordeal, it is very helpful if that person has caring and supportive people that are willing to help. The individual will also need ongoing long term strategies to find the most effective approach to handle the situation.
