By Samantha Smith

If you are worried about losing your hair, then you are not by your little lonesome. Sadly enough, many people will lose their hair at some point. You should become knowledgeable about why people lose their hair. Although, only a doctor can tell you the real reason why you are losing your hair.

The purpose of this article will be to look at some of the reasons why people lose their hair.

If you are a woman, don't be shocked if you start to lose your hair, because it can happen for special reasons. If you are planning on having a baby, don't be surprised if during or after your pregnancy you lose some of your hair. The high level of hormones created by pregnancy can trigger a variety of symptoms, and this sometimes includes hair loss. It is a normal thing that doesn't need to be worried about, because it won't last too long. Women going through menopause may also start noticing that they're losing more hair than usual. Since this is an issue with hormones, consulting your doctor is a good idea when this starts to happen. With some lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements, you may be able to get it under control, but it may not stop completely.

An especially distressing or frightening situation can cause enough stress to cause you to lose hair. Everyone handles stress differently, and in many cases it can cause physical symptoms and even illnesses. One example of hair loss that can be blamed onto stress happens after surgery or some kind of accident. When this happens, however, the hair usually regrows. Any extremely upsetting situation you are confronted with, or an incident that is painfully overwhelming, may result in hair loss due to stress. Admittedly, stress can cause hair loss, but it would take an intense amount of stress over long periods of time in order for it to be the cause of hair loss. All the same, if you want to improve your chances for keeping your hair, you should make it a goal to reduce stress in your life as much as possible.

An underlying disease may be the cause of your hair loss. If you begin to lose hair, it could be an early-warning sign of a medical problem. If your thyroid is overactive or under active, it can lead to hair loss. This condition can be corrected by treatment for thyroid disease. Lupus, diabetes, and anemia can also be problems. All of these can be potentially serious if not treated, and hair loss may actual be a minor problem compared to other complications that can occur with illnesses such as diabetes. In such cases, it's important to get the right treatment for the underlying condition. Usually, if you have such an illness, you'll have other symptoms as well, so always check with your doctor about any unexplained symptoms.

Once you determine that it is not the result of a medical condition, then you can figure out what you will do about your hair loss..
